National Youth Assembly

Today, the young people of our delegation, Gracia, Jen, Katie, Ricardo, and John participated in the National Youth Assembly of the Lutheran Church in El Salvador.

The Assembly began with worship.  The focus scripture was Psalm 104, which celebrates the power and majesty of God in creation.  As part of worship, the youth collected bits of nature and shared how they symbolized the gifts of God.

Bishop Gomez attended part of the Assembly and provided his blessing.  Also, as this year marks the 25th Anniversary of Bishop Gomez's consecration as Bishop, the Assembly focused on the history of the church.  One of the Salvadoran church workers, Pastor Santiago, presented a brief synopsis of the history of the Salvadoran Church. He stressed to the youth the importance of keeping this history every present.

Music was an important part of the assembly.  In addition to singing during worship, the church brought in a band.  The band members emphasized that it was important for the youth to be familiar with the indigenous music of other Latin American countries.  They played several songs that came from the Andean region and at least one that came from Venezuela.  This provided an opportunity for those who wished to dance!
